IDW 2009

Design will be the star on the Turkish streets of Istanbul from 18th to 21st June, thanks to IDW – Istanbul Design Weekend. The event will in fact be attracting the international design community with product design displays, exhibitions and installations. The initiative emerges from the partnership between the Italian company DesignPartners and the Turkish Dream Design Factory; it strives to promote design culture at an international level, fostering exploration of the worth and quality of Turkish design while creating business opportunities at sales points, showrooms and design premises throughout the city of Istanbul. The four-day Turkish event is to be inaugurated on 17th June, with the opening of the third location to the DesignLibrary – the first library of its kind. IDW ’09 is structured into two main directions, both linked by a common denominator: “Mediterranean Design: between today’s and tomorrow’s trends”. The former sees the involvement of the city’s best design stores and showrooms, which will be taking part in the competition for the Best Window/Installation illustrating the chosen topic. Instead, the central attractions to the latter will be exhibitions and cultural initiatives pivoting once again around the theme ‘Mediterranean Design: between today’s and tomorrow’s trends’.
